■ Initiatives to promote “Bottle‐to‐Bottle” horizontal recycling of PET bottles used during the race

In collaboration with our official partner Otsuka Pharmaceutical, we will separate and collect the plastic bottles provided to runners at each aid station, and use the collected bottles as raw materials for recycled plastic bottles. These recycled bottles will then be reused as beverage containers by Otsuka Pharmaceutical and other beverage manufacturers.

■ Paper cups used at aid stations are collected and recycled

In partnership with our official partner, Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., we conduct paper cup recycling. Runners are asked to dispose of used cups in designated collection boxes at water stations. The collected paper cups are then processed and recycled into raw materials for producing toilet paper.

■ Using electric vehicles along the course

In conjunction with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Zero Emission Vehicle promotion initiative, Porsche Japan Co., Ltd. will provide Taycan and Macan electric vehicles for use as the chief referee’s car and other official vehicles.

■ Promotion of Reuse and Recycling

In an effort to reduce waste throughout the event, “safety pins” were not included in Runner Packet the reuse of volunteers' and race officials' uniforms are promoted. In addition, recyclable resources such as cardboard boxes will be collected and recycled.

■ Universal Design (UD) in communications

On race day, we utilized “SoundUD,” which can display announcements in multiple languages, to support accessible and inclusive communication for all participants.

■ Universal Changing rooms and Universal restrooms (Location: National Stadium area)

Gender‐free/barrier‐free restrooms and universal changing rooms that can be used by people of all genders will be available in the Japan National Stadium.

■ Addition of non‐binary

As society as a whole works to create an environment that accepts diversity, a non-binary option added to the gender category, which has already been introduced in other AbbottWMM races. Participant lists and records will display “male,” “female,” or “non‐binary”.

■ 360°VR Road Guide

The 360°VR Road Guide can be used by people who use wheelchairs, baby carriages, or the like at points along major roads which have been closed off (and are not crossable) during the marathon to safely reach the other side. Using 360°photos (not videos) taken along crossing routes, it turns users' smartphones into guide staff, providing clear guidance simply by tapping on the arrows on‐screen. The arrows (signs) show the way, so the 360°VR Road Guide can be used intuitively, with no need for multilingual support.
